Building a Better
Nobody voted for this. Only Lib Dems are fighting to stop it, and address the real underlying problems.
Nobody voted for what we’re seeing in Westminster. Nobody voted for damage. Many thoughtful people voted to leave, but now have different feelings after three years of turmoil, uncertainty and stagnation, with no settlement in sight. It’s now clear that Brexit will damage our communities and country – this was never on the menu.
Personally, I’ve seen the damage Brexit is doing to our security relationships and how enfeebled our armed services might be by leaving.
A no deal Brexit would be a catastrophe for Broadland; for our hospitals, for our farmers and their produce, and for our manufacturing. Any exit deal would make us worse off, and not respond to the fundamental concerns of those who wanted big changes for the better.
We should use our energy – and money – on real problems. The Liberal Democrats have clear, targeted, policies to address economic inequality, immigration, our NHS, and opportunities for our young people. We have heard the concerns of those who want the best for our nation, and we will take action.
The United Kingdom has always been a leader in Europe, and I have seen first-hand the diplomatic, economic and cultural benefits of our relationship. Europe is our closest neighbour, our biggest market. Our histories are intertwined, as are our destinies.

PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
The Climate Crisis is real. We must act now. We will take effective action on carbon, plastics, and air pollution
We know the climate is changing. We know the oceans are choking. We know the air is harming us. We have to act now, for our children and for theirs.
2050 isn’t soon enough to be carbon neutral. The Liberal Democrats will double renewables to 60% by 2030. We will ban fracking. We will prioritise homes of the fuel poor to retrofit insulation in 4 million properties. Through our Green Investment bank, the Liberal Democrats will invest in the cutting edge technology needed to create change on a large scale, and quickly.
We need to recycle more, and to reduce waste. We will set a recycling target of 70%, and extend food waste collections to 90% of UK houses. The Liberal Democrats are the only serious party with an ambitious climate change agenda. We must take action, and we must take it now.
Broadland is already a leader in recycling and renewables, and there is huge opportunity for us to develop these industries for the good of our communities, nation and the good of our planet. We must protect our unique natural environment, and for this it’s not enough to act locally.

INVEST IN BROADLAND
Our communities deliver huge benefits for individuals and society, so let’s give them the funding and support they need.
Broadland has so much to protect, and so much opportunity. We must take care with development, and ensure we build services, including schools, clinics, and public transport.
Just adding more houses creates new problems. How can we take the opportunities of the modern economy, when phone signal is often terrible and the internet non-existent?
The Liberal Democrats will ensure local authorities have the money they need to deliver for communities, by lifting the borrowing cap. We will require housing developments to take the long view, and create a Community Right of Appeal where planning decisions go against the approved local plan.
We will install superfast broadband to every property in the country. And the people who know where to invest are the residents of Broadland – it is our communities who make the best decisions.

Make taxation fair and simple. Give our businesses the freedom to thrive.
We don’t live in a fair economy and haven’t for some time. The Conservatives and Labour now favour either the extremes of no-deal Brexit or State control. Too often, large companies are able to take their profits offshore, and pay no tax in the countries where they gain their revenue.
The Liberal Democrats believe in a balanced economy, where large business is a force for good, and small enterprises can compete fairly. Where meaningful employment opportunities are created for the local communities and living cost are affordable. Small enterprises allow individual creativity to be fully released. A Liberal Democrat government will support new businesses with mentoring, finance, and review business rates and regulations.
We will ensure businesses are taxed equitably. This means eliminating tax breaks that allow large companies to reduce their tax bill to zero. The whole of society must benefit fairly from economic activity, and only the Liberal Democrats have a plan to achieve this.
